Dublin, with its Georgian elegance, its medieval bustle and its 20th century buzz offers something for all visitors.
Help for you and/or larger parties.
If you would like our concierge to help you with transport arrangements, we will be happy to assist. Next to a regular taxi the concierge can organize a mini-bus, or coach, for larger parties. Special requests such as a rickshaw, tuk tuk, or horse and carriage may require some extra lead time but can be arranged.
Getting to The North Star Hotel & Premier Club Suites
From the Airport:
A taxi from the airport should cost approximately €25. Approximate driving time to hotel is 20 minutes and distance is 10 kilometers.
Several busses go to the city centre. Recommended are the Airlink 747 and 748 (Adult Single €6.00, Return €10.00 / Child Single €3.00, Return €5.00) Airlink tickets can be bought in the airport at the Bus and Rail information desk, the Dublin Tourism information desk, or on the bus. (See Rambler tickets at Getting Around) Regular busses 41 and 41B (Single aprox. €2.00) direction City Centre are reasonably direct but take longer due to more stops, and the stop for the hotel is around an eight minute walk away. Other busses go to the city centre, but these may take much longer due to their routes and are not advisable.
Dublin Airport has no rail services.
By Rail/DART/LUAS:
Connolly station is located directly opposite the hotel. It serves amongst other connections with Sligo, Belfast and Wexford/Rosslare. Heuston station is the second train station for the rest of Ireland and has direct connections with Connolly Station by LUAS, bus, or taxi.
· Irish Rail Long distance train service.
· DART Dublin Area Rapid Transit, a suburban railway.
· LUAS A modern light rail transit system comparable to a tram or above-ground metro.
From the Boat/Ferry:
Ferries to Dublin arrive at Dublin Port and Dun Laoghaire Port. Dublin Port is a 3 minute drive from The North Star Hotel and city centre. Dun Laoghaire arrivals can take the DART, bus or taxi into town.
From Busaras Bus Station
Busaras Station, just a two minute walk from the hotel is where most, if not all, provincial bus services from Dublin depart/arrive.
Getting Around Dublin
On Foot
Many of Dublin’s sights and sounds are in, or close by, the city centre. As everyone is different in their mobility we can only say that some visitors do walk most of it. Tourist maps showing Dublin city centre can be misguiding with respect to the distance, you won’t have to go far... Some destinations just outside the city centre, such as the Guinness Storehouse, may warrant a taxi or bus.
Taxi
A Taxi rank is located directly opposite the hotel at Connolly Station. From the North Star Hotel one can get easily to North or South Dublin destinations. Taxis have meters and upon request they will give you a receipt. Only a few taxis can accept credit or debit card payments, check before getting in.
Bus
"Amiens Street" is serviced by the following bus routes : 130 | 151 | 20b | 27 | 27b | 27c | 42 | 42a | 42b | 43 | 90. Prices may vary depending on the destination. Busses do not give cash change but instead they print out a little receipt at the end of your ticket which you can return to their office (O’Connell Street) in return for the actual cash. Check your ticket, you may need to ask the driver for this. A good option to travel around by bus is to get a Rambler ticket for 1, 3, 5, or 7 days as it is good value and it includes the Airlink busses to/from the airport as well. Note that bus numbers in both directions are the same. Only the end destination name will indicate in which direction the bus is going. Ask if you are not sure. Bus stops are not called out or visible on a screen. However, you can ask the driver to give you a warning when your bus stop is up.
Car
Did you rent a car, just arrive on a ferry? Remember, drive on the left side of the road. "Amiens Street" is well connected to the North and South of Dublin as it is located near the river Liffey. Traffic jams are, as in any capital city, a nuisance. Although Dublin is not bad at all when compared to other cities in the world. Dublin does have a few one-way streets. At the time of writing there are plans to make more of the city centre pedestrian only.
Be aware not to use the special bus lanes. Bus lanes are, and can be, used by a taxi, motorcycle or bus. Bus lanes may be used by regular cars during some hours of the day as traffic signs will indicate. Please be aware that some bus lanes are 24/7 bus only. Also try to avoid getting on a contra-flow buslane, although there are not many of those around.
Country roads can be narrow with hedges and green preventing a clear view around bends. As anywhere, fast drivers do excist, accidents happen... follow the rules, and watch other drivers. Where we can, we will advise you on directions, please call.
Car Park
Our own car park is available for guests. Please note that we also have arranged for you to use Connolly car park directly opposite the hotel at same charge. Entrance on Lower Sherrif Street directly opposite. A right turn into Lower Sherrif Street is not allowed.
